Life changes us, through motherhood, surgery, or long desk hours. No matter the reason, your core is your center, and it deserves gentle attention and focused care. If you’re recovering from an abdominal surgery or C-section, or just getting back after a sedentary spell, here’s how to rebuild safely.
Why the Core Weakens After Surgery or Sedentary Life?
  • Muscle inactivity: Limited movement after procedures leads to quick deconditioning (atrophy).
  • Pain or discomfort: Soreness in the abdomen, pelvis, or back makes you avoid engaging the core.
  • Altered breathing patterns: Shallow breaths reduce diaphragm and deep-core engagement.
  • Surgical trauma: In C-section and other surgeries, muscles and fascia are stretched or stitched, disrupting function.
  • Poor posture while healing: Slouching or favoring one side creates imbalances in core and back.
  • Lack of rehab guidance: Without specific post-op instructions, underuse and deconditioning persist.
Common Signs of a Weak Core
  • Lower back pain from insufficient spinal support.
  • Poor posture such as slouching or rounded shoulders.
  • Balance issues or feeling unsteady during daily tasks.
  • Pelvic floor weakness (leakage with cough, sneeze, or exercise).
  • Abdominal bulging or “doming”, especially with effort, possible diastasis cues.
  • Fatigue with simple movements like stairs or getting up from a chair.
  • Shallow breathing and limited diaphragm engagement.
How to Start Rebuilding Safely?
  • Start with breathwork: Diaphragmatic breathing to reconnect with the deep core.
  • Reconnect, don’t rush: Skip early crunches; use pelvic tilts, bridges, and gentle deep-core activation.
  • Posture check: Align ribs, pelvis, and spine to reduce strain and promote healing.
  • Seek guidance: Our physiotherapists at VARDĀN specialize in post-surgical and postpartum recovery.
  • Be patient: Healing is personal; celebrate small wins.

  • Comprehensive assessment of posture, breathing, and movement.
  • Manual facilitation to activate the diaphragm, deep abdominals, and pelvic floor.
  • Progressive home program including alignment cues and targeted exercises.
  • Posture correction to support healing and daily function.

Our Client Speak

I’ve been going to Vardan, Lajpat Nagar for Functional Manual Therapy since January 2025. Initially, it looked like a case of sciatica which my MRI later confirmed. But that wasn’t all. I came with a full “combo pack”: fibromyalgia (chronic pain and fatigue), hypermobility, hypersensitivity, and flat feet. Quite the jackpot, right? Still, I thought I’d bounce back soon. My physiotherapist referred me to Vardan. After a few sessions, my ortho suggested I might need surgery , something I really wanted to avoid. I spoke with Tanu, my therapist at Vardan, and she assured me she’d do her best to help manage my pain. And she did. At my worst, I was bedridden for months even taking a shower required sitting down. Fast forward to today: I walk, I go to work, I climb stairs (not too many, let’s not get ambitious), and I even go out with friends. All this is possible because of Tanu’s skill, care, and persistence, alongside my physiotherapist’s support. I call her a Miracle Worker. My therapy is still ongoing, but the difference is night and day. Thank you, Tanu, and thank you, Vardan!
